Oppgavesettet er omfattende, og det er ikke meningen å gjøre alle oppgavene. Læreren kan velge fra en meny med mange ulike aktiviteter:

Oppgave 1:

Fokus på opplevelse/første inntrykk av kunstverket (muntlig: pardiskusjon)

Oppgave 2:

Fokus på bakgrunnskunnskap om kunstverkets tittel «Wandjina»
(nettsøk + muntlig: plenumsdiskusjon)

Oppgave 3:

Fokus på bakgrunskunnskap om aboriginenes skapelsesmytologi, The Dreamtime (muntlig: lytte og skriftlig: lese, skrive blogg).

Oppgave 6:

Fokus på kreativ skriving basert på aboriginenes billedkunst. Oppgave b) er basert på bruken av Creaza, Moviemaker eller et annen lyd- og bildebehandlingsprogram.

Oppgaver

  1. First impression of the painting
    What is it that you see in the painting? How does it make you feel?
    Work in pairs. Look up the meanings of the following adjectives in a dictionary.

    weird bewitching sacred
    dreadful supernatural realistic
    dream-like mysterious natural
    cute fantastical revelatory
    heroic imaginative harmonious
    emotive strange visionary
    powerful extraordinary awesome
    spiritual unusual transcendental
    magic mystical awesome

    Decide which of the adjectives could be used to describe the creature in the painting.
    Take turns describing it to each other. You may use other adjectives in addition to/instead of those from the list.

  2. The title
    The painting is called «Wandjina». What do you think a wandjina is?
    a) a duck
    b) a human being
    c) a mythological creatureSearch the Internet to find out more. Sum up your findings in class.
  3. The Dreamtime
    Answer both a) and b).

    1. Read about The Dreamtime at: aboriginalart.com, Indigenous Australia and culture.gov.au (links last checked June 2011)Write down answers to the following questions:What is The Dreamtime?
      Who created the world and when?
      Is there any connection between the human beings and the wandjinas?
      What happened to the creators of the earth?
      How does The Dreaming reflect the values of Aboriginal culture?
    2. Choose one of the twelve animated Aboriginal Dreamtime stories which you can listen to
      and watch at dustechoes. (sist sjekket juni 2011) You will find the menu at the top of the page.Write a blog entry on the discussion forum of the school’s lms in which you briefly
      describe the story, state your opinion and give reasons for it. You can also comment on
      the entries of your fellow students.
  4. Aboriginal music
    What is a didgeridoo? Choose one or two of the videos (sist sjekket juni 2011) on the Internet to find an answer.
    How does the music convey the atmosphere of The Dreaming? Discuss in pairs.
  5. The painting «Wandjina»
    Study the painting «Wandjina» by Alec Mingelmanganu and read the text about the painting on the National Museum’s website. Answer the questions below in class:Why do you think the creature does not have a mouth?
    What would you say about the eyes?
    What do the head and the shoulder part remind you of?
    Describe the body of the creature.
    What types of colours are used in the painting? What is the effect of this colour scheme?
  6. Creative writing
    Find examples of Aboriginal paintings (sist sjekket juni 2011) on the Internet. Do task a) or b).

    1. Write a story based on one of the pictures.
    2. Use the digital media tool Creaza to create a video of the pictures. Write a manuscript for it. You can also record a voiceover or appropriate music for your video.
  7. Act it out
    Choose one of the stories from the website Aboriginal stories and paintings (sist sjekket juni 2011) and prepare a
    dialogue for a role play or dramatisation based on it. Perform in class.
